St. Joseph's Episcopal Church

As of April 5, 2018

Progress report

In each upcoming issue of The Shavings this year, we will bring you up to date on where we are in the transition process.

As a reminder, Rev. Canon Mary Trainor’s last Sunday with us will be December 30, 2018, which thus sets into motion a series of steps for our deliberation and decision.

Here is what we know now about the selection process for the next priest for St. Joseph’s:

  • Nancy Hopkins has agreed to assist Betty Racich in coordinating the transition effort.
  • We have set up a Compensation committee to review the Clergy compensation package that we can offer. Pat Whitman, Bob Henkle and Bill Hopkins have agreed to serve on this committee with Betty Racich and Rev. Mary. A date to meet will be set up soon.
  • We have also set up a Survey committee; Pat Jebens, Janeane Dimpel and Dianne McCarley have agreed to serve on this committee. Their work will not start until after the Story Day has taken place. Contact has been made with the Rev. Tom Discavage, the facilitator from the Diocese, to set up a date for Story Day. More updates to follow.

The Shavings will transition, too

We are looking for someone who would like to be the editor for The Shavings. Anyone interested in this valuable communications ministry should talk with Rev. Mary, who is the current editor. What would be ideal is for someone to begin this role sooner than later in order to have some overlap.

Our parish is part of the Episcopal Church, the Diocese of Los Angeles and the worldwide Anglican Communion. The worship of God forms our foundation for spiritual growth, community, and outreach to the needs of the world.

This church opens wide her doors to ALL and offers her welcome to ALL in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Persons of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome here. We are a community of seekers.

We hope that you'll take a few minutes to explore our website. It will give you a feel for this community of faith, its many ministries, and the warmth and love of the people here. We also hope you will visit the parish -- whether you're new to the area, a seeker or just traveling through Buena Park. You'll be welcome here.
